Behold the Tower Flower. Encased in huge bamboo flower pots, this residential building looks like the play area for Dr. Seuss’s Thing 1 and Thing 2. It’s at the outer edge of the 17th, two blocks from the thundering péripherique, overlooking a little park where you can sit on a bench and gaze up at it.
If you need a snack, and who doesn’t, Gontran Cherrier–one of the city’s celebrated bakers–has a boulangerie a few blocks away. His imaginative baked goods seem to complement the Tower, with offerings like jet-black bread made with squid ink and black sesame seeds, or an aromatic curry-multigrain bread.
The Tower was built in 2004 as reduced-cost housing by the architecture group Maison Edouard François.
