Tales of windy, tempestuous shipwrecks and feats of maritime endurance line the shelves of a floating bookstore in Paris. On the Bassin de la Villette, this large ship subtly advertises it’s wares with a simple sign: “librairie maritime.” And for the curious, a large porthole offers a glimpse of the books down below.
The store/ship’s full name is l’eau et le rêves. And if ocean adventures are not your thing, you can also find a curated selection of mystery, history, and literature, both new and used. And there’s a vast children’s book section throughout the stern of the boat.
A sailor and a publisher came up with the idea for this venture and the ship is moored near Quai de l’Oise, except for about 40 days/month when they’re required to sail away for a legal reason one of the owners assured me was very compliqué.
Visit, sway a bit with the waves, get a book to read.
